Oriana Arrives in Galway
Oriana Cruise Ship Port of Galway Harbour

P&O Cruises arrived in Galway yesterday with one of their most popular cruise ships, the Oriana.  This cruise ship is the largest cruise ship to have called at the Port of Galway and is the result of three years of preparations.

At a length of 260 metres and a beam of 32 m and a passenger compliment of 1,928 and 784 crew, the Oriana anchored in Galway Bay, just south of Mutton Island at 07:00hrs with first passengers coming ashore at 08:30hrs.

Regional excursion coach tours of Kylemore Abbey, Cliffs of Moher, Cong “The Quiet Man” Experience, and Ailwee Caves were the first coaches to depart the quays and the remaining passengers opting to stroll into Galway for the day.

Oriana was in Galway as Part of a “Celtic Cruise” having called to Cobh, Dublin, Killybegs and Galway before sailing back to Southampton.

The support from local ferry company Island Ferries with their vessel Ceol na Farraige for this port stay proved a great success.
