Port of Galway is at the forefront of renewable energy with the arrival of the latest “piece of kit” which is to be deployed in the ¼ scale wave test energy site in Galway Bay.

The Wave Energy Converter (WEC) is the culmination of years of study, planning design, funding and now deployment.

The Port has been the only Port to deploy on station all WECs, namely WaveBob, Ocean Energy and now SeaPower.

In the photo, you can see the Ocean Energy device remains on the port estate, the Siemens wind turbines stored at the port’s industrial estate and the SeaPower device getting ready to be towed into Galway Bay.
