All aboard for the West of Ireland Offshore Racing Association (WIORA) event in Kilronan. Who could have thought that the WIORA would be pulled together against all the odds to bring such a prestigious event to the Aran Islands? But it happened. With tremendous support from the Aran Islanders themselves, the organising committee headed up by Cormac MacDonacha, Ocean Crest Marina, LM Keating, Galway County Council and the Port Company, all pulling on the oars like dogs made it happen.
The legacy of which being the floating pontoon which now remains at the pier, allowing visiting sail boats a better and safer harbour to visit.
The regatta itself was a great success and the boat that deserves a mention is our very own boat called Port of Galway. Her young crew taking pole position on day one of the regatta. Skippered by Aiden Breen. The event will be hosted in Galway in August 2018 along with the Irish cruiser Racing Association (ICRA).
Lets get more boats out onto the Blue Playground, AKA Galway Bay!
